Choosing Between Standard and Advanced
One of the most consequential decisions a Year 11 student makes is whether to study Advanced or Standard level for Mathematics and English in Year 12. This choice affects not only their workload but also their potential ATAR, as these subjects are scaled differently by UAC.

When Can Year 11 Students Still Change Subjects?
Unlike Year 12, where the NESA deadline of 30 June is absolute, Year 11 students have more flexibility. Subject changes for the Preliminary year can generally be made up until the end of Term 2, subject to school approval and course availability. For Year 12 subject selections — which are being finalised now — most schools require forms to be submitted between Weeks 6 and 10 of Term 2.
