If Your ATAR is Lower Than Expected
OPTION 1 Adjust Your Preferences
Lower your preferences to courses with selection ranks that match your ATAR. You can still aim for your dream course in a later round.
OPTION 2 Apply for a Pathway Program
Enrol in a diploma or foundation course that guarantees entry into your preferred degree upon successful completion.
OPTION 3 Consider a Gap Year
Apply now and defer your offer, or reapply next year with additional experience. Note: some early entry schemes may not be available as a non-school applicant.
OPTION 4 – Wait for Later Rounds
If you don’t receive an offer in December, keep your preferences active and wait for January and February rounds. Vacancies open up as students decline offers.
Accepting and Managing Your Offer
You’ll Be Notified by Email
When you receive an offer, UAC will notify you via email and SMS. Log in to your UAC account to view and accept the offer.
Accept Promptly
Offers have acceptance deadlines. If you don’t accept in time, your offer may lapse. You can accept an offer and still keep higher preferences active for future rounds.
You Can Change Your Mind
If you receive a better offer in a later round, you can accept it and withdraw from your current offer. You can only hold one offer at a time.
Deferral is an Option
Most universities allow you to defer your offer for one year if you want to take a gap year. Check directly with the institution for their deferral policy.
